Most
factory revolvers and autoloaders come with either wooden, composite rubber, or
plastic "grips", the material which covers the frame handle of the
revolver or autoloader. General Patton, as you may recall, preferred ivory grips.
Some shooters find that the factory-installed grips are awkward or
uncomfortable for some reason, in which case custom grips may provide a desirable
solution.
Custom grips are normally made of a softer synthetic
composition, and may improve controllability of the firearm. Some recoil
may also be absorbed by custom grips, enhancing the shooting experience.
